Chief home builder, draftsman, superintendent and quality inspector ... overseas this project with much enjoyment (blood and sweat included).

Smooth basement floor.

Clearing a path for the driveway aggregate.

The first scoops.

At last, the foundation digging was ready to begin. It took a couple days to dig the foundation/basement and a lot of good soil was hauled away. It was very cool to watch the CAT excavator dig a hole that soon transitioned into a smooth dirt floor that literally looked like a lifesize version of our house drawings.

November 2005. Tuesday before Thanksgiving the final staking took place. The following Monday, November 28th was the planned day to start digging the foundation. It was a dismal day, unseasonably cold...then turned rainy...but a very exciting day for us! The two pictures show 1) the cul de sac looking straight onto our lot where the front of the house will be (west/north) and 2) the hillside, with four primary stakes from the garage side of the house towards the (north/west).

This is the lot on Monday morning, November 28, before any excavation work started. You can see the surveyor's stakes for the corners of the house.
